Expedition Compact

The Soviet North Pole-1 drifting station was established for scientific research of the polar region. Opened on June 6, 1937, 20 km from the North Pole, it operated for 9 months before ending on February 19, 1938 with the evacuation of four explorers. The station traveled 2,850 km on the ice floe during its journey.
